■Product Details.
This glass wind chime was specially ordered by YAECA from Shinohara Furin Honpo, a long-established Edo wind chime shop that has been in business since 1919. A wonderful item for seasonal interior decoration or as a small gift.
A simple, undecorated wind chime made using the blown glass method. You can enjoy the fluctuation that is unique to blown glass, where each piece has a slight difference in shape.
-In order to improve the sound, the opening part is intentionally left jagged. Please be careful when handling this part as it is easy to get injured.
-As each item is handmade, the tone will vary from piece to piece.
-Due to the manufacturing process, there may be bubbles or wrinkles in the glass part.
Edo furin;
When glass was introduced from the Netherlands during the Edo period, the Japanese at the time, who had only been familiar with wooden and clay vessels, were astonished by its beauty.
The imported items were expensive and not available to the common people, but eventually the glass manufacturing method was transmitted to Edo via Nagasaki, and as affordable glass products were created, they gradually became popular among people.
The one that captivated everyone's hearts was the wind chime.
Glass balls and tubes made with hand towels are swayed in the natural wind to produce sound. Originally, in China, wind chimes were hung in bamboo groves as a tool for fortune-telling based on the sound they made, but the people of Edo enjoyed the sound of wind chimes, feeling the breeze and coolness.
This Edo wind chime is made using the same manufacturing method as back then, with both the bead and tube being hand-blown, but everything except the string is made transparent. A modern wind chime that fits well in both Japanese and Western rooms.
Enjoy the same sound of the wind as it was then, in a city that is still slowly changing.
